Governing Board 

The MT CoC Governing Board, also referred to as “the Board”, is established to act on behalf of the MT CoC Membership. Many of the responsibilities of the MT CoC Membership will be carried out by the Board, with input from the members they represent. To be eligible to serve on the Board, representatives must be members of the MT CoC, and all MT CoC Board members are required to serve on at least one committee.

The Board shall consist of a minimum of 7 and a maximum of 21 representatives serving at any given time. All Board members shall have one vote on matters before the Board. 

Board seats are made up of appointed and elected representatives 

Appointed Representatives: 7 Seats

Seven Board seats are reserved for individuals who represent current HUD-required and/or HUD and MT CoC-prioritized stakeholder groups:  

  • One (1) elected public official (HUD-required)

  • One (1) representative of the Youth Action Board

  • One (1) representative of the business community

  • One (1) representative of law enforcement 

  • One (1) representative who is a behavioral or primary

    health care provider

  • One (1) representative of recovery housing/sober

    living provider

  • One (1) representative of a workforce development

    organization or system

  • One (1) representative from a local court system

Elected Representatives: 14 Seats

Fourteen Board seats are designated for statewide representatives who are passionate about making homelessness in Montana rare, brief, and one-time only. The MT CoC is looking for individuals who: 

  • Have lived experience of homelessness and/or housing insecurity 

  • Live or work in geographic areas that are not currently represented on the Board 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of Montana’s homelessness landscape and the systems 

    that shape the state’s response to homelessness and housing insecurity 

  • Have experience working with or on behalf of homelessness and/or housing-related 

    organizations, programs, or services 

  • Have experience working directly with individuals experiencing homelessness 

    and/or housing insecurity 

  • Bring skills, expertise, or perspectives that would strengthen the Governing Board 

    and complement, rather than duplicate, the skills of current members
